Ban shark finning and the possession, selling, and buying of shark fins in all countries

This is a petition to make shark finning as well as the possession, selling and buying of shark fins in all countries illegal. Sharks are important to the ocean ecosystem and some scientists predict that almost all shark species will be extinct within our lifetime, mostly due to shark finning. Shark finning itself is a terrible, disgusting and inhumane practice that involves cutting off a sharks fins and throwing it back in the water to suffocate to death, because the shark can no longer swim, or something else will eat the shark that is left defenseless because it cannot swim. Without sharks the next level of predators will take over and over-populate which means those predators will eat everything and they will eventually have nothing else to eat, which will kill all of the predators. Without sharks, the oceans WILL BE DESTROYED.

Since I was a child, sharks have had an infatuation with sharks. I hate to even think it possible for them to no longer exists. I teach my children to respect all life but what is this telling/showing them. Cruelty to animals is cruelty, no matter the excuse.
There is no need for this practice to continue, currently many threatened and endangered sharks are killed for fins. Making it illegal is a step toward recovering healthy populations of sharks for healthy oceans.
I don't normally sign petitions because of the ensuing spam I will receive, but no issue is more important to the health of our planet. We will not survive as a species if we remove all of the apex predators from the oceans.
100M Sharks per year is one too many for finning. Conspicuous consumption harms the ocean ecosystem by removing apex predators that have been swimming since before the first trees took root in land. End this now.
Sharks have been a passion of mine since I was three years old. I was that little kid telling everyone random shark facts. To add my favorite animal in the world being hurt and killed for no reason at all is just sickening. Please stop shark finning.
Sharks must be protected at all costs and shark finning needs to be banned
I love sharks; and I do not wish to see them become like the whales and cod have in the Atlantic, fished and hunted down. No fin harvesting!

Common sense dictates that shark finning is a danger to everyone simply to provide a substance that is tasteless in food and has no medicinal value. This practice should be banned and the fact that it is reckless and ignorant promoted everywhere.
