We, the undersigned, to hereby petition the Government of the City of Charlotte, North Carolina to prohibit the operation of bicycles and other human-powered vehicles on highways within the city limits of Charlotte, North Carolina that have been identified by the North Carolina Department of Transportation as “other principal arterial” where there are no marked bicycles lanes present between the hours of 7:00am to 9:00am and 4:00pm to 6:00pm on non-holiday weekdays. Bicycle riders on such roads during said hours impede traffic effecting thousands of people. Additionally, bicycles pose a danger to motor vehicles as they force motor vehicles to change lanes to get around the bicycles. Finally, it is gravely dangerous to the riders of the bicycles as pavement and gutters that are sometimes rough or slick could cause the bicycle to wipe-out and crash to the ground. This would in turn cause the bicycle to be struck by the motor vehicle behind it, likely killing the rider of the bicycle.
