This petition calls upon commercial talkback radio hosts to present fair, accurate and balanced views on their shows. This is in accordance with the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s (ACMA) Codes of Practice, which regulates commercial radio.

For too long, commercial talkback radio presenters have been presenting a significantly biased and unbalanced view. A recent example is their coverage of the carbon tax, in which they largely interviewed climate change sceptics regarding the climate change debate.

This clearly violates ACMA’s Codes of Practice:

- Purpose of Code No 2: promote accuracy and fairness in news and current affairs programs
- 2.3(b): reasonable efforts are made... to present significant viewpoints when dealing with controversial issues of public importance...

Regardless of where you stand on the climate change debate or any other issues, radio presenters have an obligation to present all the sides of a story, supported with accurate facts.

We strongly ask commercial talkback radio hosts and their companies to cover issues in a fair, accurate and balanced manner.
