SAVE THE BLACK EAGLES OF ROODEKRANS
HELP US STOP THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WATER RESERVOIR 700m FROM THE NEST SITE OF THE BLACK EAGLES OF ROODEKRANS (see www.blackeagles.co.za for more info on the black eagles). Mogale City has received the go ahead from the MEC, Mr. Khabisi Mosunkutu, to build a 6 mega litre water reservoir within the boundaries of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, Roodepoort, Gauteng, South Africa. We need your support to stop this development. If we do not stop this development it may have severe long-term effects on the \"Black Eagles of Roodekrans\" and will destroy valuable pristine Bakenveld habitat that red data species of protea and scorpions survive in. Should this develpment not be stopped, the construction period of 330 days will most certainly have severe effects on the eagles as it will involve removal of large quantities of hard rock, and massive disturbance from construction crews, earth moving and drilling equipment, which will result in significant noise, dust, visual and solid waste pollution that threatens to force the eagles to permanently vacate the area. The area will be permanently scarred and fenced, thus degrading the very core of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens. Other options available for locating the reservoir at a less sensitive site have not been properly investigated and no ecological studies were done.
