We the undersigned are writing you to request your assistance in nationally establishing the month of April to be recognized as Upper Limb Differences Month. Specifically April 18th to be the designated day, and orange the color.

Limbtastic! is a not for profit organization for those born with limb differences and their families. Though the organization is based in New York, there are people globally that live with a limb difference. Many of these have differences with their upper limbs which are either rare, or undiagnosed, and simply labeled as a difference. The basic definition of an upper limb difference is a condition, diagnosed or not, that affects the hands, fingers, arms, or shoulders. We seek to acknowledge and support all with these differences and their families. Limbtastic! is currently working with several townships in New York State to declare a local recognition month to raise awareness of these amazing people , their struggles and how they overcome them. We have found that there is a lack of knowledge or understanding for these conditions, and often times these people are treated as if they are broken, unable, or different. They are far from being disabled, though they are differently-abled. It is our hope that you will assist us in achieving our goal of national recognition, which will show these children, not just in New York, that they have the support, love and understanding of their fellow citizens across the nation. Thank you for taking the time to consider our request.

Seeing this grow is overwhelming and I appreciate the weight of it. This journey is exhausting but knowing I am not the only one fighting for this recognition keeps me moving forward.

It's really important that people become educated and aware about people with limb differences and not get caught up in misconceptions.

That's awsome. I have a daughter who's 1 1/2 years old and she also was born with amniotic band syndrome and was effected on her right hand she's missing fingers and what's left of them are webbed and her feet are also effected so our first year has been amazing and challenging, she's had 3 surgeries and will go for more. But at this moment she's out true miracle baby and amazes me In do many different things she does.

I think its important to support kids and help them gain the confidence to know they can do anything they put their mind to.

As a parent, I think it is important to raise awareness; these kids can do whatever they put their minds to, and usually in ways that we wouldn't normally think about.

I am happy to sign your petition! As a parent of a young adult who was born missing his lower right arm I agree there is a great need to raise awareness of all that our children can and have overcome. As well as the amazing abilities this population of individuals has. Be it learning to tie a shoe with only one hand, to riding bikes, or to winning Gold and Bronze medals in the 2018 Paralympic Games... I always knew my son was capable of overcoming life's challenges. Having April as National Limb Difference Awareness Month gives us parents, family memebers and friends a platform for helping others see what our kids CAN do instead of the preconceived notions of what they cannot do just because others think they aren't capable!
