We, the undersigned, believe that merit, especially when achieved in an international environment, should be awarded independently of residential status. We find it inconsiderate that the award for the "Totus Tuus award for Education" should be made dependent on attendance of the award ceremony. We note that the award's committee is fully aware that Mrs. Flordeliza Lopez-Cattell is resident in Germany and hence, would find it extremely difficult to attend the ceremony.

We request therefore, that the attendance requirement be removed from the conditions of receiving the award.

Updates

November 26, 2013

The committee has yet to issue a formal response regarding the attendance requirement for the Totus Tuus award. We remain steadfast in our position that merit should be recognized regardless of a recipient's current residential status.

November 26, 2013

The increase in public support for this cause has been truly significant. Your collective commitment to fairness for Mrs. Lopez-Cattell demonstrates a clear desire for the committee to reconsider these rigid requirements.

Totally unfair to hold the award hostage like this. Send it to her.

Thanks for all your support. I'm adding my signature not for me, but also for my brother Edgar Allan Lopez, who, amongst others, are given the recognition of excellence but will be forfeited because of non-attendance.

Attendance should NOT be a requirement for receiving the award. Ms. Lopez-Cattel deserves this award whether or not she will be present at the ceremony to receive it.

This award will be forfeited if Liza could not attend the ceremony in 2014. Her recognition is also our pride, let us support her...
