As community members of Athens ISD, we request that the Athens ISD Board of Trustees reconsider the motion made on February 25, 2019 regarding the additions and renovations to the Bruce Field press box and the related budget amendment and transfer of funds. We ask that the Board of Trustees represent the community and vote down the original motion. We believe spending $4,000,000 on a press box is not in the best interest of our community’s youth. We understand that Athens ISD has access to the full funds and is not asking taxpayers for additional money. We do not believe a huge, expensive press box is the best use of our tax dollars. In the future, we look forward to discussions about a reasonably priced improvement or renovation to the Bruce Field press box. We expect the community to have input and the board to be good stewards of taxpayers' money.

Como miembros de la comunidad de Athens ISD, solicitamos que la Junta de Fideicomisarios de Athens ISD reconsidere la moción presentada el 25 de febrero de 2019 con respecto a las adiciones y renovaciones a la casilla de prensa de Bruce Field y la correspondiente enmienda de presupuesto y transferencia de fondos. Pedimos que la Junta de Fideicomisarios represente a la comunidad y rechace la moción original. Entendemos que Athens ISD tiene acceso a los fondos completos y no le está pidiendo dinero adicional a los contribuyentes. I feel for that kind of money it could go for something more academic. The football field is not used the whole year and not just by the AISD. TVCC uses it as well so get them to fund the press box. Let's think about our young people first not just sports
This is a want, and not a need. This is something that only helps the athletic side of the parents and students. Put safety first, and prioritize. Maybe use that money to raise wages of bus drivers so you guys don’t have a sign out year round stating “bus drivers needed”
The press box should not cost very much. More money needs to go toward teaching the students trades and how to balance a check book and live. The teachers, aides, etc. need more money and smaller class rooms. The board does not deserve luxury.
Spending that much money on a press is ridiculous. That money could be spent on the old track or at the middle school practice field so that they actually have a field to practice instead of dirt.
Please do what is necessary to stop students from leaving AISD and do what will actually keep students, and bring new students by putting your focus on academics. Not a single parent will walk on to that field, point up to a 4 million dollar "press box" and say " That is what makes me want my child in AISD" .

I was a crusader for the school bond. I saw the conditions of our schools as the need for expansion at the High School. I understood the need to improve the Bruce field facilities. But the price for this press box is outrageous. ... something is not right about this high bid. What's going on?? 6
