ART=WORK SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

On Tuesday April 9, 2013 an important community meeting entitled ART=WORK was co-organized by Eastern Edge Gallery and Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador (VANL-CARFAC).

Over 90 amazing voices were represented including artists, arts professionals, volunteers, advocates, business leaders, and residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We came together through our shared disappointment of the recent provincial cuts and see this petition as a beginning of a new conversation to make clear the value of the arts which is proven time and time again to be a good and solid investment.

Investing in the arts is also an investment in our peoples' well-being, our history and our culture: the presentation of our stories on the world stage fosters representation of our distinct local culture in a time of increased globalization and pressure. All this, while providing a high quality of life for our citizens here at home. For what is a community without its culture? These cuts come at a time when new possibilities for growth have appeared.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Updates

July 2, 2013

The provincial government continues to ignore the essential value of our creative sector while they slash funding to the bone. I have been documenting every single story you share because the bureaucrats need to see the real human cost of their cowardice. They think we will just fade into the background but they are wrong.

July 2, 2013

The government thought they could gut our arts funding in the dark while we looked the other way. This momentum proves they were dead wrong and now they have no choice but to face the people whose culture they tried to erase.

STUPID CUTS. NL needs to stop shooting itself in the foot and support the people who actually make this place interesting.

My kids grew up going to these galleries and festivals. It is so sad to see the government treat our artists like they dont matter.

Total joke that they think cutting the arts is a smart move. Without our stories we are nothing.
