I grew up reading this book and I’ve been waiting for a movie for years. Now at the age of 20 I was excited to hear the announcement of Artemis Fowl coming out as a movie. My smile instantly fades away when I begin to look into the movies descriptions. Everything is wrong from the casting and what seems to be the story line. Holly has a brown skin color, root is a male and he tries into her character development, Butler and Juliet are siblings not cousins, and Butler has some Asian decent in him. This is all wrong and as fan for years I do not agree with any of this

What the heck. You can't mess up characters like this. Come back when you're ready to accept everything that made these books amazing

Disney has Disneyfied too many movies, and they have to stop somewhere. YA novels are not meant to be turned into kids books, same with movies. Thanks you for starting this petition.

Artemis Fowl was a formative book series for me growing up— it taught me many lessons and focused on impactful themes that i feel are completely undermined by your casting choices. i would love to go see a treasured childhood story play out on the big screen but if the casting remains as it is, i will be disappointed before even entering the theatre

Please pay attention to this petition. These books, with the diversity they contain (especially Butler's race) and moral points that they address were an important part of my childhood and the childhoods of many. These current casting choices miss many of the main points of the books themselves. While I appreciate the attempt at diversity with Butler, Asian people are just as underrepresented in Western media. Funnily enough, more diverse casting can be achieved by staying true to the character descriptions in the books. Thank you for your time.

Did they even read the books? Having a child as an adult character makes no sense in context and just please stop whitewashing characters. It's not hard. Stop it.

The casting of Butler, Root, and Holly are all completely out of character and show disrespect to the source material. Making Root a woman eliminates the sexist dynamics between Root and Holly in the books. Butler is Eurasian and could pass for Chinese, so it doesn't make sense to substitute a black actor as if non-white roles were interchangeable. And making Holly a young girl makes no sense when canonically she's a grown woman. I not yet convinced that Holly's casting is whitewashing—she's a fairy, so she can't be categorized into a human race—but everything else in the petition is absolutely spot-on. The movie's casting has disappointed me immensely.

In the times where every open minded person strives to catch even a glimpse of something that is not a story between two white people with black sidekick and pitifully written female character(s), can we perhaps be given something that was NOT like that? Changing and tweaking the characters to fit into the story better is one thing, but erasing some of the most vital characteristics is another. Is changing Julius Root gender a fanservice or a way to appease female portion of audience? If so, it is poorly done, as it will have the exact opposite effect, diminishing Holly's struggle to become acknowledged as a valuable officer by her own rights . But my biggest peeve is the fact that we can have blue aliens, pretty Godzilla, talking dragons and zombies but gods forbid that we can have brown skinned fairies. Oh the horror. And I don't know if I should even touch the issue of age, because, if there even is as much as a hint of romance I'm calling foul. Changing the age of an actress to that of a child will not erase the fact that Holly Short is grown woman while Artemis is still a kid. And yes, I basically said what was already written on the tin, but I still needed to say it.
