The purpose of this petition is to show that a significant number of residents of Brandon and the surrounding area wnat the application for the Hannaford supermarket and the additional retail space approved. Brandon is in desperate need of an economic boost and the jobs that this project and resulting retail operations will provide. Brandon has suffered badly with the economic downturn and has lost several businesses that employed many Brandon residents. The project will provide immediate jobs for the construction of the site as well as long term jobs in the businesses that move into the center. This will benefit Brandon by employing local people as well as bringing shopping into the town which will have a spill-over affect into the downtown area by bringing in and keeping money within town rather the loosing this potential income to Rutland and/or Middlebury, which is currently the case.
