We, the undersigned parents of Hatfield Heath Primary School, are writing to express our serious concerns regarding the ongoing head teacher recruitment process and recent decisions made.
We are deeply troubled by the projected timeline of over four months to appoint a new head teacher. This extended period of uncertainty is not only disruptive to our children's education but also impacts the overall stability of our school community. Furthermore, we find the lack of transparent feedback regarding the rejection of all candidates both concerning and inadequate, leaving our parent community without any clear understanding of the decision-making process.
Of particular concern is the decision not to appoint our current acting head teacher, Mrs Collier. Given her extensive experience and proven dedication to our school over many years, this decision appears both puzzling and potentially detrimental to our school's future. Mrs Collier has demonstrated consistent leadership capabilities and represents a stable, known quantity for our school community during this transitional period.
We must also express our concerns about the message this decision sends to our existing and prospective teaching staff. The apparent inability for a long-serving, capable professional to progress within our school could severely impact our ability to attract and retain talented educators. This creates a troubling precedent suggesting limited opportunities for career advancement within our institution.
It is important to note that this statement reflects the overwhelming support for Mrs Collier among our parent community. The significant number of signatures attached to this letter demonstrates the strong collective desire to see her appointed as our permanent head teacher, a sentiment that we believe warrants serious consideration.
We therefore call upon the School Board to take the following immediate actions:
1. Provide a detailed explanation of the selection criteria and decision-making process within the next 14 days
2. Reconsider Mrs Collier's candidacy for the permanent head teacher position
3. Schedule an urgent meeting with parent representatives to discuss these concerns in person
4. Commit to a more transparent and expedited recruitment timeline
We expect a response to these requests by (date to be added). The parent community remains committed to working constructively with the Board to resolve this situation in the best interests of our children and the school's future.

The School Board thought they could ignore us while they stalled on this appointment but the momentum here proves they were wrong. We are not letting them get away with this blatant disrespect toward Mrs Collier and our entire community.

Mrs Collier would make a wonderful Head Teacher and would bring Hatfield Heath Primary back up to an Outstanding Ofsted rating. I just wish my son was beginning his primary school years under her leadership rather than what he had experienced under the Mrs Gelston!
The preschool would have worked hard with Michelle to re create the community bonds that were such a strong part of being on the school site. Over the last few years these have been sadly lacking.
We are new at school, my daughter has been attending school for 4 months, we have been very warmly received by Mrs. Collier, she was immediately visible her approach to students and signing in what she is doing, children love and in this my daughter also cannot imagine a better candidate for this place.
The absolute commitment that Michelle Collier has to the school and the children more than warrants her appointment as headteacher on a permanent basis. She goes above and beyond to support not only for our children but us as parents too.
As a family with two children at Hatfield Heath primary school, my husband and I would like to see Mrs Collier appointed at head teacher. Mrs Collier holds the key characteristics and experience to be an excellent head. I do feel in the past few years the school has seemed to face problems and lack of leadership and Mrs Collier would be able to move the school in the right direction.
In my opinion Mrs Collier will be a perfect fit as the new permanent Head mistress of our child’s school Hatfield Heath primary school.
Mrs Collier as Headteacher brings stability to the school.
