Petition to Expedite Confirmation of Joseph Otting as
the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency:
Support to Modernize the Banking Industry and Serve All Americans
The U.S. Comptroller of the Currency regulates virtually all of the very large banks and is in a position to influence the future state of banking to everyday Americans, including our nation’s 130 million minorities.
We believe that Joseph Otting, an experienced banker, is in a position to positively influence the future of U.S. banking and possibly world banking. Most importantly, we believe that he wishes to bring full banking services to the up to 68 million Americans who are presently unbanked or underbanked.
We believe that Mr. Otting holds many qualities that would make him the best and most successful Comptroller of the Currency. We believe in Mr. Otting’s approachability and openness to meeting with community groups.
We also believe that he will openly welcome the modernization of our regulatory system to encourage greater homeownership, particularly among our nation’s 130 million minorities, as well as develop platforms for maximizing, directly or indirectly, small- and micro-business lending, particularly to women- and minority-owned businesses.
Lastly, we believe that Mr. Otting’s career has been focused on economic empowerment, and we therefore urge and support his early confirmation as our nation’s 31st U.S. Comptroller of the Currency.
