Dear Mr. Mayor,

I have been a city resident of New Braunfels for 10 years.

I am extremely concerned and strongly object to the appointment of Colette Nies to the Housing Authority Board. Ms. Nies is a failed Democratic candidate who ran and was rejected by this community for a reason. It is not difficult to see that in the past year that Democratic policies, actions, agendas and sentiment run fast in the face of these cherished values and principles. The appointment is intended to be non-partisan. I do not believe Ms. Nies would uphold such a posture were she appointed.

Please uphold your oath. Defend “we the people”….in this case the people of the city of New Braunfels. Do the right thing. Stand both with and for the people who elected you. DO NOT appoint Ms. Nies to this position. She too is a resident of the county. I am not opposing her as a person, nor do her qualifications or even her “criminal record” factor in as far as I am concerned, but I oppose this appointment because of the root principles of the Democratic party and her evident partisanship when this position is supposed to be non-partisan. Two examples: 1. Ms. Nies has posted on Social Media a poster whose clear message is “Obama=Hope, Trump=Hate” 2. It is evident that she has support from the president of a local Antifagroup with underpinnings of Satanist association (this too, is sourced from social media). If these examples reflect her approach to things that will affect New Braunfels city residents, do you believe appointing Ms. Nies will serve the better interests of said residents?

I was not in attendance of the last Council meeting (January 25) where the appointment was postponed. But I heard there was such a healthy and robust turn out in opposition to the appointment. There is a reason! We are a county that is conservative (72.6% of the County embraces this: https://www.bestplaces.net/voting/city/texas/new_braunfels). Perhaps “one appointment” could not make a difference. I do not believe that is true. I believe that you hold to a similar opinion. Baby steps in the wrong direction are still just that….the wrong direction.

Thank you for your time, consideration and attention to this important matter.

Respectfully,

Robyn Bridges and

Concerned New Braunfels City and Comal County Residents
