A group of organized Anti-Jews gathered to build a replication of the Star of David (also known as the Shield of David) and burned it at Time Square, which was permitted from 10-12p.m. during the Hanukkah season. This is an expression of their hate to the Jewish religion.

Is this form of freedom of speech protected?

As long as not physically harming or making threats against a group, its constitutional. Religious symbols should be not be burned regardless.

I think that this form of speech should be protected because it is not harming anyone.

I think this is protected and that they are allowed to burn the star because they are expressing their freedom of expression and religion. If you can burn the flag I believe you can burn a star.
