Your persistence ensured that our priorities will finally guide these decisions instead of outside recommendations. We must remain vigilant to ensure the city continues to honor these local needs.

Alpine folks!
The pipeline has pledged $400,000 to the city, $185k of which will go to our local fire dept for equipment, vehicles, etc.
The other $215k is currently being considered to be used to make a new walking trail connecting the south and north parts of town (per the suggestion by a group out of San Antonio!). There are so many other things that the community has been asking for, but our opinions are not being asked!
What about improvements to the city pool? What about finally getting a splashpad? What about more bathrooms in the parks? What about more water fountains and shade in the parks? What about the Little League Field, Manual Payne Field, restrooms, or International Field that are all in disrepair?
Why are we adding new things to the city when we have so much trouble maintaining what we already have?
Many polls and studies within the city have clearly shown what citizens are wanting to see - a new walking trail is NOT on it.
The Big Bend Parks and Recreation for Kids non-profit has brought in over $100,000 worth of grants and another $25,000 locally fundraised for park improvments to the city in just 3 years. This is with very minimal help (labor) from the city. It is time the city contributes.
I implore you to write or call the mayor and city council to have a town hall and get community input for how to use this money.
Next city council meeting will be July 6, 2017 at 1730.

The momentum behind this petition highlights a clear community desire for transparency regarding our municipal funds. It is encouraging to see so many residents prioritize the maintenance of our existing public spaces over new projects. We also need to look into what the city needs to help the city employees fix the roads. Yes the parks could be upgraded but our roads really need to get fixed. I do not believe we need this path, why???? Let's fix what is broken not add to something will break and need to get fixed.
We need to use this money to improve what everyone uses on a daily like little league fields, parks and the city pool. A walking trail is not needed! We need to improve the things we already have not add things that we will soon not be abe to maintain. Bathrooms at the park is something that is very much needed for our community.
I think part of this should go towards the youth for their recreational sports. The youth football team is on need of equipment desperately and we may not be able to play this year because of it. Invest in our future Alpine by investing in its youth!
Fix the baseball & soccer fields. We can't even host tournaments because our fields are not maintained. The condition of the fields are prime for injuries to our children.
Alpine is NOT San Antonio, and San Antonio's suggestions for our small city should not even be considered. PLEASE ... request input from the citizens of Alpine for the preferred use of the $215,000 money left over after Fire Department gets $185,000. Thank you.
As an Alpine resident for 12 years, there are better ways to use this money. Improvements to the Little League fields & the city pool would be a great place to start.
Where is the land going to come from? Are you just going to take it from the good tax paying citizens of Alpine who don't want this anyway? Not ok!!

Alpine already has a walking trail. There is only one true little league field built in the 40's. There isn't ONE practice field in the entire city. After 75 years it's time to give back to the kids.
