Petition summary and background

The United States Supreme Court struck down a 1992 federal law on Monday, May 14th that effectively banned commercial sports betting in most states, clearing the way for states to allow sports gambling within their borders. New York State Sen. John Bonacic has introduced legislation, S.7900, to update the sports betting provisions of the Upstate New York Gaming Economic Development act of 2013. This legislation would allow for four upstate New York State casino gaming resorts, as well as racinos and OTBs, to conduct sports betting after the federal prohibition was lifted.

Action petitioned for

As the United States Supreme Court has overturned the federal law that currently restricts single –game sports betting to Nevada, we, the undersigned, support legislation that would permit sports betting to expand to racinos and OTBs, along with the four upstate New York casino gaming resorts.

Include OTBs in sports betting in NYS. We need additional revenue for local governments.
