The ability to quickly contact guardians or authorities should not be hindered during school hours, when students are in a controlled environment and depend on others for their safety.

Globally, schools have taken varied approaches to the use of cell phones in classrooms, with some institutions already adopting flexible usage policies. A study from Pew Research found that 85% of teenagers have access to a smartphone, signifying the feasibility of using this technology responsibly during school hours. Moreover, empowering students with the responsibility of managing their phone use also encourages them to use technology wisely.

The post told how a student grabbed a teachers phone after one of the staff had been injured and called 911 helping save thier lives and others.

We are not advocating for unrestricted use of phones, but rather a controlled and supervised approach. Phones could remain switched off, in silent mode, or in phone caddys only to be used for emergency reasons under the guidance and supervision of the teachers or school authorities. By implementing clear guidelines and educating both students and teachers about responsible phone usage, we can cultivate an environment that values safety while minimizing distractions.
