The Governor finally signed the order and the Department of Licensing is moving forward with the online permit process. You forced them to quit dragging their feet and actually do their jobs. Enjoy this win because we earned it by refusing to let them ignore us.
The Washington State Department of Licensing has created a plan for issuing temporary instruction permits to new drivers via an online process. The plan is currently at the Governor's office waiting for executive order to be implemented. Your signature to this petition is in support of the governor signing the order immediately.
The momentum we have built makes it impossible for the Governor to keep ignoring these delays. We are forcing their hand and they need to sign this order immediately instead of letting new drivers rot in limbo.

My daughter has completed the online/classroom portion, but is unable to get a permit to practice driving. She apparently has to finish everything by Oct 4, but if she can't actually practice driving, I'm not sure how that's supposed to happen.

My daughter has been in driver's ed for over a month, and we are not able to practice the skills she is learning. Please make it so kids can get their driving permits ASAP. They need to be able to practice what they are learning in driver's training.

As a member of the leadership team of Freedom Driving School, our ability to serve the community is severely limited without this plan being implemented. We are here, ready, equipped to continue training new drivers. Please pass this proposal quickly.

I see no down side to allowing learners permits to be obtained online. There are seemingly insufficient appointments available to students beginning summer driver’s ed programs, and the offices issuing permits are inconvenient for Seattle residents.

You are keeping Driving instructors from returning to work and getting off of unemployment- these students need to get their permits so they can obtain their required instruction and their licenses and so that the industry can go back to work !

Permitted drivers already need to have a driver who has been licensed for 5 years in the vehicle with them while driving. This should provide enough assurance that online permits would be sufficient until a driver is permanently licensed.
