When student productions go up in the SAC Blackbox, there are times that the needed equipment (lights, speakers, etc) aren't positioned the way they're needed to be. Whenever this happens, students must schedule/wait on someone that works in the SAC to come and make the proper adjustments. This can be a problem due to scheduling conflicts and there's always the chance it won't get done in time for the first tech rehearsal, which results in lost time. Most of the students are capable of making the adjustments themselves due to the fact that they've had the proper training and have what it takes to make sure everything can be fixed safely.

Another issue that often occurs in tech and during the run of a show has to do with sound. Whenever there is an event happening in the SAC with loud music or noises, oftentimes those sounds can be heard in the Blackbox. If there are ever moments needed of absolute silence, yet all that's heard is the booming bass coming from the dance studio across the hall, this can take away from the impact of the design, and ruin the audiences experience for the show.

Due to the fact that every surface is hard, and there's no sound proofing in the room, there's a lot of echo. Words can become indistinct due to this, making it hard for an audience to understand what someone is saying, especially in louder moments. Plus, if there's any kind of background ambiance, the delay only adds to the muddle. Again, this causes issues with the design and the overall impact that an audience takes away from a show.

If you think that changes should be made to benefit future productions in the SAC please sign this petition and share it with your friends!

*Made for Gov 310L, but also something I hope can spur some sort of change in the Blackbox.
