Cashmere is a beautiful town with so much to offer. Unfortunately, there is a code that prohibits having chickens, ducks, or rabbits on lots smaller than 1 acre in city limits. Anyone who has raised poultry knows that they don't need that much space! We are proposing to allow a reasonable amount of hens, no roosters, on smaller lots. Coops must be reasonably clean and pest-free, food must be in rodent-proof containers. We need to show City Council and the Mayor that the community at large supports this change.

It's so important now, more than ever, to have the freedom to control our food sources. Raising a small number of poultry or rabbits can produce sustainable, healthy food for an entire family.

Cashmere residents only!

The reach of this petition has hit a point where the City Council can no longer ignore the volume of local interest. I have initiated contact with council members to formally request a spot on the next meeting agenda to present these proposed ordinance amendments.

I love having our chickens and ducks as well as our kids. Having them to be self-sufficient, as well as responsible for some thing, other than a dog.

Chickens are great and not invasive. It would be wonderful to be more self sufficient and have your own eggs.

I support the allowance of small animals raised for food in the city of Cashmere. Everyone should have the right to grow and raise their own food.

I lived in the Everett and Bothell area for 14 years before recently moving back to Cashmere. Chickens were common at many private residences and never an issue. I also worked closely with Everett code enforcement fielding complaints and the only complaints I came across were a noisy rooster. Raising chickens for a sustainable food source is a no brainer and I was surprised to hear The City of Cashmere doesn't allow it. It needs to change.

The city needs to be like the other cities and allow a certain amount of hens on someones property. Nothing better than fresh eggs and sitting out with a beverage enjoying "Chicken TV".

100percent support this! Let the residents of Cashmere enjoy owning a small flock of poultry and provide a few fresh eggs for themselves :) Hens take up little to no space and are not a nuisance when managed.
