This is a petition to modify the housing rules of NYU dorms to include any animal kept within a 10 gallon tank. Currently, the rules allow only for fish kept within a ten gallon tank. My guess at the purpose of this rule is to prevent pets from being disruptive. However, I believe that pets that can inhabit a ten gallon tank would be equally as discreet, as these would include reptiles, insects, and small mammals, most of which are unable to create a sound. Potential pets could be considered on a case by case basis, ensuring that they would not be disruptive to the community. If anything, a pet kept within a 10 gallon tank would be less disruptive to the room than a 10 gallon fish tank that requires a filter.
This doesn't violate any building or fire code that I know of. Residents within the dorms are allowed to keep pets, and most of them have dogs that are brought throughout the dorms. If you are registered with the Moses Center and need a pet to help with a disability, you are allowed to have one. Pets are allowed within NYU dorms, just not for everyone.
I just want to be able to keep a pet snake, and I really don't see why it should be a problem if I am able to keep it within the already existing allowances for fish.
Please SHARE on social media so I can get my pet snake. And you can get your whatever.
In my hopes of becoming a student at NYU, I'm hoping that they do allow pets by the time I get there. My small dog is my life and I wouldn't want to be away with from her just because of a silly rule. Psychology even proves that living with animals helps a person live a healthier life! And if they could allow pets as long as they do not disrupt the environment, then I'm all for it!
