In my hopes of becoming a student at NYU, I'm hoping that they do allow pets by the time I get there. My small dog is my life and I wouldn't want to be away with from her just because of a silly rule. Psychology even proves that living with animals helps a person live a healthier life! And if they could allow pets as long as they do not disrupt the environment, then I'm all for it!

@Amy from UK- Amy, thank you for your insight! I understand that this could be a very possible situation were we allowed to have pets. However, I have two points that I hope explain why what you mentioned shouldn't be a reason why we can't change the pet policy. First, is that pets and snakes are already allowed! If you need a service animal, or a pet to help you emotionally or mentally, you are allowed to have one. Any one of these pet owners is just as likely to get drunk, be crazy or unstable and let their pet loose. I'm sure it would be necessary to create policies prohibiting and punishing the releasing of pets into the general public. Second, is that while your situation is scary and may be frightening, it is most likely not harmful. I in fact want to get a pet snake, and I assure you that the snake in mind is not poisonous. If this policy were to change, I would recommend that the school creates an application process for pets to make sure the pets are not dangerous, disruptive, or illegal. If the pet snake of my dreams somehow got loose, god forbid, all that would happen is that he would probably get stomped on out of fright.
I hope that this responds to your concern adequately. I hope that you can get behind this movement and get me a pet snake!

This will never be allowed because students have a reputation for being crazy, unstable and drunk. Say someone has a snake in a tank and forgets to close the lid in a drunken state.
Too much that can and would go wrong in this. The rule is there for a good reason.
