Massage therapists and other personal services are not on the reopening radar of Sonoma County. Those of us in the personal services sector would love to work with the state and our local counties to educate them with the protocols that we already follow, and to come up with any additional protocols they deem necessary to allow these services to reopen with the rest of phase 3. Massage therapists are trained to “do no harm” which covers all levels of a massage.

Here are protocols that are either currently in place or can be implemented for the safety of our clients:

Touchless hand sanitizer

Face masks and protective eye wear for clients

Duvet covers that will be changed per client

Aprons for the therapist to change per each client seen

2 Face masks and face shield for the therapist

UVC lamp to help kill bacteria and other viruses

HEPA Air purifier

Medical grade cleaning products

A thermometer to check the clients temperature

Sterilize any tools that are used such as cups, graston or gua-sha tools

Open windows if possible

New waivers to be signed by each client

Questionnaire to ensure client isn't sick and has not been in contact with anyone that has been sick

Notices, precautions, and appropriate risk signage

WEAR A MASK, WASH YOUR HANDS, DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE!

Please sign this petition to help your personal service provider return to work.

The local officials are ignoring our detailed safety plans while other sectors resume operations. Post this link to your Facebook page and tag the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to demand they review our protocols. Send an email to your representative today stating that massage therapists are ready to work safely.

Reaching this milestone proves that our community understands the safety protocols we have ready to implement. Now is the time to push harder. Email your county representative today and attach these safety guidelines to show them we are prepared to work safely.

I'm grateful for being able to finally get my hair cut, but I'd trade that in a minute to be able to visit the massage therapist that helps alleviate the pain I have in my low back and the muscle spasms in my legs. How can this NOT be an essential service!

I am a massage therapist. I am insulted that hair salons are open, chiropractors are open, and I cannot work. I believe there is a stigma around my profession and it must end! I have been practicing for over 30 years and my work is vital for my clients.

Many Massage Therapists in the Health and Wellness Field are licensed and receive considerable training to include ongoing continuing education. The services of these dedicated professionals are vital to the restorative healing and well-being of many people.

There are many entrepreneurs who have worked hard to build a clientele of people to serve. Also people who enjoy and need massages. Don’t penalize these people. They can be safe and still do what they need to do.

Open massage therapy! They are essential to health and wellness and if people can go to med spas and get lip filler where the nurses 1inch from their face and sticking their fingers inside their mouth (no mask) then massage therapist should be allowed to open.
