as a landowner in Catoosa County who is working towards a future where I can feed my family on my own land, I hope my voice is heard loud and clear for all of us - we all deserve the human right to farm our land and feed our families. The fact that it is 2023 and we are now debating over the ability to farm our land shows how absolutely broken the sense of community is, here in our not-so-small-anymore rural town. This is unreasonable. This is absurd. This goes beyond the Great Chicken debate. Lets try to keep Ringgold rural - a hard effort right now in the face of all the subdivisions and high density rentals popping up in our community with little to no say from the general public. If our infrastructure can handle that type of development and construction for the folks who prefer those types of communities, it should be able to allow the development of small scale homesteads and backyard farms for the communities of people that already live and work here. We need to farm now or we risk our families going hungry, or broke, due to food shortages and rising inflation. We should be free to farm on the land we own and already pay taxes on - without more taxes and fees and all this county intervention.

It is ridiculous that we should even have to sign a petition to allow such thing. The constitution allows us the right and freedom in pursuit of happiness. People need to mind their own business and keep their interest well within their own property bounds.

4H programs, Future Farmers of America, GA AG, local school ag classes depend on the farming community in our rural town. I believe property that isn't governed by an HOA should be allowed to govern backyard chickens, gardens and greenhouses with restrictions.

I am a farmer, it is how I provide for my family. My property somehow got zoned R1. When I tried to have it zoned back to agricultural the people at zoning told me I was grandfathered in and I would have no problems owning animals since I farm.

I'm a resident of catoosa county. If my neighbors can have a 4 wheeler track in their front yard, I should be allowed to have chickens

It does not make sense for the county government to make decisions like these for people living in rural areas. Let neighborhood associations have their policies, and otherwise leave it alone.

Our chickens are domesticated, very much a part of our family as the dog . They are trained to stay in our yard and do not create a nuscinse . I pay my taxes and mind my business of what goes on in my yard. Not anyone else’s business what goes on in my yard. Especially if it doesn’t smell or make noise!

It is a basic human right to eat and provide food for our families. We are asking for the county’s support so that we can supplement our family’s food plan by having a few back yard chickens, along with our gardens. This should always be permitted, but especially during this recession that is causing a lot of financial stress and strain to families.
