- Catoosa county zoning is incorrectly citing people for having chickens, stating that they are not a domesticated animal, (the literal definition of a chicken is a domesticated bird). They believe that the zoning law does not allow back yard chickens unless you are zoned for agriculture, however there actually no current laws against chickens. The zoning enforcement is incorrectly citing people for this and people are losing their rights to their property.
In this time of food shortages and more uncertainty we need to be able to provide for our families with a few backyard hens. - Please please please join us to fight for our property rights and be able to have chickens and gardens. Our community needs to be able to provide for ourselves with chickens.

The constant pushback from the zoning office is exhausting but we are nearing five hundred signatures. Please send this link out to your neighbors so we have enough weight behind us for the next meeting.

One hundred people have signed this and honestly my hands are shaking a little bit. It is exhausting to fight these zoning citations day after day but seeing you all agree that this matters keeps me going.

The numbers are rising but the county continues to ignore the reality of our situation. We need a stronger showing to force them to acknowledge our property rights before another neighbor gets hit with a baseless citation.

I have had backyard chickens in a number of cities in GA. No one has complained because I take care of them. In the county, it is ridiculous to restrict them. HOAs can determine what they want in their areas and the rest of the county should have a choice.
With the price of groceries higher than they ever have been raising chickens would be a way to provide my family with eggs. It is also would be a good learning tool to teach my kids responsibility and animal husbandry.
Chickens supply food for families. We are seeing a decline in egg production and prices are skyrocketing. Let Catoosa County Residents provide for their families and stop this crazy notion that your property value outweighs someone eating or not. Catoosa County... Let's come together for each other!
4H programs, Future Farmers of America, GA AG, local school ag classes depend on the farming community in our rural town. I believe property that isn't governed by an HOA should be allowed to govern backyard chickens, gardens and greenhouses with restrictions.
Buckhead, which is the highest value real estate in Georgia, and where the Governor’s Mansion is located, allows hens (no roosters). In Buckhead. Where super rich people live. No excuse not to drop the persecution and let people use their property as they seem appropriate.
I feel like we should be able to have back yard chickens in our Smoketree neighborhood.
Worry bout what’s in your own yard!
