I think this is very unfair to implement major changes for children whose parents sent them to Akiva on past assurances from JCOSS that they would be guaranteed a place

We chose Akiva, not only because it is a wonderful school but because it feeds into JCOSS in the hope that our children would get a great and consistent education and now this is to be put on the skids. lots of anxiety all of a sudden.

The proposed changes are coming into affect too quickly and don't take account JCOSS was founded to accept Akiva pupils. It is also the only progressive option.

All of a sudden the policy gets changed? Not fair for those of us who chose Akiva on the strength of it being a feeder. And what a surprise that it still could change. Why make it a feeder in the first place...how lovely to antagonise parents this way!

Please please keep akiva as a feeder to jcoss and do not discriminate akiva kids. There are no other options that match the values of jcoss for akiva kids. It's heartbreaking to see this may be a reality. Being a reform member and adhering to the values of akiva i was always keen to see my kids progress to a school with similar Jewish values. I very much hope this situation will change. Debbie

We would like Akiva School to remain a feeder school for JCOSS and the proposed admission criteria to be clearer as explained below. JCOSS – AKIVA SCHOOL FEEDER STATUS We would like Akiva School to remain as a feeder school for JCOSS for the following reasons: - The historical and strong existing relationship between Akiva and JCOSS is productive for both schools. - Akiva has the same ethos as JCOSS that recognises that we are part of the wider Jewish family in a multicultural world. - Akiva children have high academic records and a strong commitment to Judaism which in turn supports the ethos and achievements of JCOSS. - The two other JCOSS feeder schools (Clore Tikva and Clore Shalom) both have other feeder schools in their local areas resulting in them (historically) not taking up their allocated places at JCOSS. This situation discriminates unfairly towards Akiva children who do not have another feeder option. - Because of the relative physical proximity of JCOSS to Akiva we really need the full feeder allocation to remain unchanged. AKIVA SCHOOL FEEDER CRITERIA We would also like the feeder school criteria to remain unchanged or at least be clear so that families can understand them and have time to plan ahead by being able to realistically evaluate whether a place will be offered to their child. In particular: - The proposed criteria are overly complicated and parents simply don't understand the chance of their child getting/not a place. This is a legal requirement of the Admissions Code. - The meeting that Patrick Moriaty (JCOSS Headteacher) held for Akiva parents on 20th January 2014 was useful but ultimately did little to unravel the complex application procedure and for this reason we do not feel that the proposed criteria are consistent with the Admissions Code which states that criteria should be understandable for all. Akiva should have priority over primary schools that are further away for JCOSS. Not only is that equitable (distant schools have easier access to schools closer to them, but it reduces children's travel and is more environmentally friendly.
