online math 23A did not prepare me at all for 23B. The knowledge that i gained was very basic and i had to accumulate it all myself without assistance from any formal instruction. the "online lectures" were simply the professor repeating exactly what was written in the text book thus offering us no new information or understanding.

Online math is basically a "teach yourself" course. For high level concepts such as those in Math 23a, this does not work! I feel my understanding of calculus is lesser than someone who has taken in-person classes, and I don't want others to suffer the same fate.

Giving individual students the choice would be fine with me. Not having the option of a real class is unacceptable. We pay for a real education not to be presented with a website. These math classes are absolutely fundamental to everything STEM students study. We all know online classes are not what a UC education should be.

As an individual who has taken two out of the three math classes offered online, I can say that while there were aspects of the online component that helped me specifically, math classes should be taught in person and with fewer people for a more intimate setting. That's the only way to truly engage students.

As a student who recently finished the online 23A class, I do not feel the course provided adequate preparation for further math-based learning. Much of my learning was done outside of the course, using other materials. The class was taught in a style that encouraged memorization rather than understanding. I did not feel that the course enabled or required me to achieve mastery of the material.

I have never taken an online math course at UCSC. Still, many of my incoming 2015 peers do, and there seems to be a universal understanding that cheating isn't taboo in these courses. Why would students respect a math course that doesn't respect them?

Not right

There is no way that most students could learn the material in an effective manner from an online class. It's absolutely absurd to me.
