In the recent sixth form assembly we have all been informed of the new planned dress code for all sixth formers, which is to be used in the new school year. This code has erased casual clothing and replaced them with more smart and work-appropriate attire.

Although we have been given a chance to vote on our preferred range of clothing, this still limits our wardrobe choices and almost forces us to buy new clothes for the sake of ,one more year at Sponne for next years year 13. For the new year 12s it will not be as hard to comply with the new dress code, due to the fact that they will not have thrown their old blouses and uniform away, but will most likely be dissapointed that they cannot have more freedom with their clothing choice.

This combats one of the appealing features of sixth form, which is the freedom to wear more casual and comfortable clothing. This was one of the unique features about Sponne sixth form, as many other schools, such as Campion still have to wear full formal uniform. By restricting and changing these features it will make current student less enthusiastic and new students less likely to choose Sponne as their sixth form.

This change has irritated many students, me included, as well as some of the staff with this sudden change. Mostly because it is unnecessary as our current dress code allows casual attire with obvious and very reasonable restrictions, such as ripped jeans and very short skirts, but still allows a freedom to have a more relaxed feel which, in turn, allowed us to work comfortably at school.

In conclusion i do not want this new dress code to go ahead and an writing this petition against this taking place next year for all of us to benefit.
