We are calling parents to sign the petition against forcing parents of students of C.B.S. The Green Secondary School in Tralee.
Every year parents are forced to pay €150 of voluntary contribution. Giving the locker key is being dependent on paying at least €100. Parents who do not want to pay or cannot afford it are being questioned by The Secretary of the School or The Principal to explain why they cannot pay.
In the Press Statement The School explaining that " payment requested is voluntary in nature" and " under no circumstances does non- payment of the contribution result in a child not being given a locker or being excluded from any part of school curriculum (...)in which pupils are expected to participate"

We parents, understand that those voluntary contributions are important for The School and we want to support The School but we cannot be put in an uncomfortable situation where we have to explain our financial situation or where students cannot get their key if they cannot or does not want to pay.

Voluntary contribution can only be brought by own choice, without obligation or persuasion.

We stand against being FORCED to pay voluntary contribution and explaining ourselves if we cannot or do not want to do it.

I have been hearing so many stories from families feeling the same pressure and it is truly humbling that you have chosen to share these experiences with me. This is entirely because of your courage to speak up about what is happening behind those closed doors.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum we have built together. This response belongs entirely to the families who felt brave enough to speak up about these unfair practices.

It is supposed to be a voluntary contribution but we received a letter stating that a locker would not be given to students if at least €100 was not paid

€150 is very expensive in top of school books and uniform it's one of the only schools that don't do book rental if they did maybe more people would pay the €150

Large contribution compared to other schools and feel like you're over a barrel as boys don't get their locker or journal unless it paid... how is this voluntary?

As a pupil in the school I know what’s going on around the pace, multiple students have paid only fees such as 10 EUR and have received the locker key. I paid the full 150 and get a rubbish locker!!!! This whole system is a joke

No one should force us to pay voluntary contribution and it's disgusting that we have to explain why we don't pay or our children won't have a locker
