I have been an elementary school teacher for 15 years. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with both my undergraduate and graduate degree. However, I was not prepared to identify at-risk students or develop appropriate interventions. Even now everything I've learned has been through my own research. We are still extremely fixated on high stake testing and as a result that is where most district allocate PD time and money. Teacher preparation, QUALITY training, and support must become a priority at both state and local levels.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read and districts must stop wasting valuable time by delaying diagnosis and intervention that is research based for children with dyslexia.

My niece who is in middle school and has justrecenly been diagnosed with dyslexia. This could have been diagnosed sooner if our schools recognize it as a learning disability and provide support at an early age.

Just found out my 6th grader has dyslexia and it makes me sad how many years we have missed to getting the proper help my child needed because schools don't recognize dyslexia. Wounder how many children and adults have it and not knowing it. Kids are our future and we need them to be working at their fullest potential instead of failing them.

I support equipping those with dyslexia through dignified means and financial expenditure so that they may best be equipped to learn skills and information that invest in their personal and community contributions.

We must do everything possible to help children with dyslexia. We cannot let this condition hender any child from having a bright future gist because we do nothing to help them.

It is my hope that Missouri teachers will be adequately trained and not just enough to gain compliance with the law. Our kids deserve better than that!
