Please help our kids with decoding /reading struggles get the help they deserve by training regular education teachers in Wilson reading or Orton Gillingham. The earlier they get this reading help the research shows the better.! Thanks for you time

My son has Dyslexia. The struggles he faces is so hard. He is reading 2 grade levels below where he should be at. He wants to be just like the other kids in the classroom. Please address this issue in our school system and get kids like my son the help they need and deserve.

My twins have dyslexia and can't get the help they need in school until educators and legislators take this seriously. They need to take action to address dyslexia and prevent more children from not being screened, diagnosed, and struggling with it at school.

My son also is struggling with Dyslexia and the schools do not address this issue. He is going into the 4th grade and is reading at a 2nd grade level. This is sad because I've known all along and the schools would not address this issue.

My son has recently been diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia, getting him the support he needs has been quite a struggle in the Independence MO School District. We NEED the support ASAP!

Our son struggled with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia from kindergarten on. Although he had an IEP in first grade the school did little for him besides scribing for him in written expression so by the time middle school rolled around he could not take notes in class , complete study worksheets or participate fully in learning assignments . Homework was a nightmare. We had to go outside of the public school system to get a private evaluation which identified the severe learning differences and the special school district then added LD to his IEP. This resulted in him going to "resource room" with other kids with different disabilities such as emotional disturbance, autism and language disorders. He got no research based individualized instruction for his spelling writing and math learning disabilities in the special school district. Again we had to seek private Wilson trained tutors and private keyboarding instruction even though he had an IEP . All students with dyslexia are not alike They need individualized instruction and intense remediation. The Resource Room special education model used in all Missouri public schools does not meet the needs of students with dyslexia or learning disabilites

I had this when I was in school. Of course back then nobody had heard of it so I was just labeled Dumb. It's a miserable feeling to want to learn and can't.

My daughter has struggled with reading since kindergarten. She was unable to pass her DRA level to advance to 2nd grade and was held back in school in first grade year. She struggles so much but the school can't not do too much more to help her since she doesn't qualify for special education services.

The proper screening and treatment is crucial for these kids. There is no reason my son should be this far behind and feel so bad about it. Thank you!

These are solid recommendations by Decoding Dyslexia, and I strongly support them. I would also like to see similar action regarding dyscalculia (impairments in mathematics) and dysgraphia (impairments in written expression).

My professional career is very focused on these issues and the diagnostic and remediation programs that are currently available for students and families.

It is time for Missouri to train its teachers and address the 1 in 5. Put an end the "school to prison" pipeline by implementing proven reading intervention programs. #saydyslexia
