What happened?

On January 20th 2023, fantasy footy website Ultimate Footy announced that they will be merging with AFL fantasy, with no category scoring option to be made available on AFL fantasy for 2023.

Who does this impact?

Category scoring is the main drawcard/point of difference for Ultimate Footy, so this is absolutely devastating news for Ultimate Footy players whom partake in category scoring leagues. Many of these players turned to Ultimate Footy due to disenchantment with point based scoring formats, and a desire to take on something more complex, strategic and challenging. This sub-section of players are therefore very passionate, dedicated and tactical members of the fantasy footy community who will not at all be satisfied with a forced return to the monotony and simplicity of a points-based scoring format.

What is so good about category scoring?

These are three of the main ways category scoring provides a more complex and rounded fantasy footy experience:

- Many additional AFL players become fantasy relevant due to their value in a particular category (e.g. key defenders are valuable due to their ability to gain spoils)
- AFL players of various positions are needed to win, meaning that teams more closely resemble the structure of an actual AFL team.
- Judgement of AFL players becomes far more subjective and personalised (as it may depend on the categories you are wanting to target), making trades much more likely to occur.

What must change?

Ultimate Footy and AFL Fantasy must migrate category scoring to AFL Fantasy for the 2023 AFL season.

What can we offer?

We are willing to pay a reasonable and negotiated sum of money per player to partake in this format if necessary.

We are willing to offer our ongoing loyalty and allegiance to AFL Fantasy if our terms (outlined above) are met.
