Join the advocacy to allow Lower Extremity Amputees to wear a prosthesis during triathlons in the swim event, thus being taken out of the TRI 5 ParaTriathlete classification and be permitted to compete with able-bodied athletes and run in and out of the water with his/her age group; no handler needed.

A new ankle prosthetic component has been designed and produced which allows the paratriathlete to ambulate in and out of the water without stopping to orientate the ankle, articulation is hands-free which is as normal and safe as you can be.

Current ITU rules do not allow the use of a prosthetic device in the swim event.  The use of the Aqua Transition Ankle does not provide any advantage over the able bodied athlete only rotating within the normal human range of motion (50 degrees plantar flexion), but will enable the user to;

  • Improve mental confidence,
  • Acquire natural aquatic signature,
  • Enjoy a safer and more competitive transition.

Updates

March 8, 2011

The momentum behind this push is undeniable and the ITU bureaucrats are finally starting to feel the heat. We have forced them to acknowledge that their outdated rules are preventing athletes from competing on a level playing field. Keep the pressure on these gatekeepers until they drop this discriminatory ban once and for all.

Let them compete! Its 2016 for crying out loud. If the gear is safe let them use it.

Triathlon is about grit. If an athlete can make the transition faster on their own then get out of their way.

Ridiculous that they have to crawl or get carried. This tech makes it safer for everyone involved.

total nonsense that this is even a debate. athletes should use the best equipment available to them period.

Rules need to evolve with the equipment. This is a game changer.
