What people don’t realize is that everyone could be an athlete.  So why don’t the Olympics and Paralympics be combined? They are all trying to achieve the same goals.  Able-bodied athletes would be inspired by the disabled athletes. It would be a win/win for all.
This petition seeks to have disabled sports broadcast on television and to gain significant coverage in the media. Athletics, in general, showcase how able the body is to perform a certain task or a group of tasks that promote healthy lifestyles. Sports provide an opportunity for individuals to express their competitive drive in a positive manner. Broadcasting competitions for disabled athletes on television and publicizing them in print will legitimize all the hard work that each athlete has put into their sport and give them a chance to show the world what they can do.
Disabled sports and athletes deserve this exposure as well. Disabled athletes should have an avenue to show the world their capabilities and create an awareness of their efforts and achievements. Broadcasting sports on television allows the world to see the accomplishments that disabled athletes have had in overcoming their physical limitations and the diminished social expectations that accompany them. Signing this petition will show that you support the broadcasting of disabled sports on television and other media. This will empower disabled athletes to share their triumphs and experiences similar to the athletes in the NFL, NBA, MSL, WPS, WNBA, MLB or the NCAA.
