As we all saw these first weeks of school; it was hot! The school year starts earlier and ends later; giving them such a short summer. But on top of all that; they have no air conditioning in Charlesmont Elementary School. The temps at all schools were well over 100 degrees in the classrooms. This is ridiculous in 2016. Well I have a plan. How about we as a community all sign this petition. What I am asking for is Charlesmont to do fundraisers (specifically lollipops and/or candy bars) to raise money for air conditioning. Also under the stipulation that ALL funds go towards the intended goal of a/c. I say this only because when I was in school we did a fundraiser for a new playground. Well, they gave our new play ground away and made us do another fundraiser the next year. And to point out; the office areas have wall units that could be used through out the whole school. Now I do realize some may say, " back in my day". Lets nip that. The way security is now; they shut all windows and doors. There is no ventilation or breeze. Yes I endured back in my day only because they had everything wide open. On top of the enclosed environment; classes are stuffed with kids. Body heat plus these computers and electronics; they needed so bad before a/c. On a personal note; my two children came home 9/8 with extreme heat exhaustion. Stomach cramps, dizziness, dehydration and nausea. My boys are 5 and 8. I know its only a few days in the beginning and only a few days in the end. But our children's safety should be worth those few days; it wont cost them that much.
