WE THE UNDERSIGNED register our opposition to the budget cuts approved by Aberdeen City Council including the decisions to a) cut sports and recreational services, b) propose school closings (including Victoria Road School), c) cut programmes for people with special abilities such as day centres, d) shorten musuem and library hours, and e) close the unique Doonie\'s Rare Breeds farm (and sell its 300 animals to the highest bidder).
The City Council could have made savings in its budgets im many other ways, and we wish to hear specifically who decided to cut these much needed and enjoyed programmes and services and how they justify these rash actions. We also wish to know how much outstanding rent, tax and fees remain uncollected and what is being done to remedy this situation.
(NEWS - THE TURNOUT AT THE ABERDEEN ARTS CENTRE ON FRIDAY 21ST MARCH WAS AMAZING - ALL THE GROUPS HIT BY THE BUDGET CUTS HAD A CHANCE TO STATE THEIR CASE - PITY THAT THE COUNCIL LEADER DECIDED NOT TO BE THERE...)
Seeing the council leader fail to show up at the arts centre made it clear that they do not care about our schools or the future of Doonie's farm. I have been spending my nights reviewing the budget documents to find the answers they are hiding from us.
March 10, 2008
Seeing this groundswell of support is deeply moving for those of us who grew up visiting Doonie's and relying on these essential local services. The council cannot ignore the sheer scale of our community standing together to protect our schools and our most vulnerable neighbors.

Doonies is a local treasure and our kids love it. Cutting this to save pennies is shortsighted and cruel.
