The Town Council rescinded Ordinance No. 4-2023 at this evening's hearing. We have successfully blocked the current high-rise zoning proposal and will now focus on monitoring future land use applications to ensure compliance with our existing height restrictions.

Atlantic Beach Property Owners and Residents,

As you know, Atlantic Beach is a hidden gem in the Grand Strand -- one of the only remaining towns in the region with unobstructed ocean views and beach access. Our founding fathers and mothers had the foresight to protect the town's legacy and preserve it's wealth through deed and height restrictions which have staved off gentrification and over-commercialization until this day. But for whatever reasons, some in the town want to change that.

Against the recommendation from the Town’s Planning Commission the Town Council voted to approve Ordinance No. 4-2023 (An Ordinance to Amend the Land Management Ordinance to Modify the Eligibility for Designation Requirement for the Planned Development and the Flexible Design Zoning Districts). The purpose of this amendment is to pave the way for an investor to construct a massive, unwanted high-rise development and a multi-level parking garage right on the beachfront. We believe this development will destroy our beachfront and forever change the cultural and historical significance of our ocean front community.

We continue to support low-rise, low density development in Atlantic Beach - but are firmly opposed to massive developments that will impact the town's character and quality of life. Please join this petition and let our Councilmember know that you oppose:

**High-rise structures that obstruct the ocean views for the rest of the property owners.

**High-density above ground parking structures and all of the noise, pollution and congestion that comes with it.

**High-density structures that could foreseeably change the governance and cultural identity of our town forever.

**Any development with environmental impacts that my potentially harm Atlantic Beach's increasingly vulnerable coastline and ecosystems.

We honor those who built and preserved the beach for their families and friends for generations to come. That is why we need to SPEAK UP NOW and let our concerns be known to our lawmakers, so there is no doubt to the out-cry to stop this project now and prevent others like it in the future.

SIGN NOW TO LET TOWN COUNCIL KNOW WHERE YOU STAND…TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF PRESERVING ATLANTIC BEACH – Say NO TO HIGH RISES on the oceanfront!

Thank you.

Updates

July 10, 2023

We are currently finalizing a formal letter to each member of the Town Council to demand a reconsideration of Ordinance No. 4-2023. Our legal team is reviewing the zoning change documents to determine the viability of a challenge based on existing deed restrictions. Please contact us via email if you have specific records concerning the original town development charters.

Ridiculous. A high rise will ruin the entire character of this town. Stop selling us out to developers.

My family has been here for 30 years and we dont want a parking garage on the sand. This is a huge mistake.

Keep our skyline the way it is. We moved here for the charm not to look at some ugly concrete box blocking the sun.
