A96 Initiatives

I support the aims of David Stewart MSP to increase the permitted speed of HGVs on the A96 Inverness – Aberdeen road from 40mph to 50mph in an effort to reduce long tail backs, frustrationand road collisions.

At the same time I support his call for more laybys to be introduced to allow slow moving vehicles to pass.

Updates

June 16, 2015

I have been hearing from so many of you who drive this stretch every single day and are tired of the constant danger. Dealing with these frustrations is exhausting but knowing I am not the only one feeling this way gives me the strength to keep pushing for these changes.

June 16, 2015

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that so many of you have sat trapped on that road feeling the same frustration I do. It means everything to see that we are finally being taken seriously regarding the safety and movement of the A96.

HGV s 100% need to be able to do 50mph as its holding everybody back and causing frustration and leading to people doing dodgy overtaking .if hgvs were doing 50 then the vans wouldn't get held up and things would move along better.trying to get a head of a lorry doing 40 mph with 20 cars sitting behind it is very annoying and we need the speed limit raised.also cars and bikes should be able to go faster as vehicles nowadays are more than capable of handling more speed and are a lot safer

I drive with a trailer so it would make my job easier if the limit was increased, i wouldn't have to try and overtake

The A96 can be driven safely by HGV's at 50mph as I have driven this road many times in coaches at50 and dont see any reason for the road not to be 50 for wagons as modern braking systems are more than up to the job

Totally agree. Why is it any different south of border, very confusing for the boys doing cross border work.

it needs done. Its a good enough road for HGV to sit at 50 or faster. Am on this road twice a day for a good hour and i dont want to see a crash because cars are over taking on corners or small straights that they dont know what coming the other way.

Good campaign - central belt bias means the Scottish Government focus too much on Glasgow/Edinburgh connections rather than this important route linking the North and North East!
