We are making a petition directed to the Minister of Basic education not to open schools while the numbers of coronavirus are still increasing. We cannot allow the Minister to gamble with our lives or the life of any child. Looking at the number of tests performed and concluded so far, it will be premature to take us back to school when we know the conditions of schooling are disappointing. The Minister should there take cognisance of the factors highlighted by unions, SGB and the broader community at large to avoid litigations. We understand the edge to salvage curriculum in the 2020 academic year, however, the virus is vicious and respect no one. Minister we as parents, teachers and learners cannot allow you to make premature decisions over our lives. We request that you review your decision based on solid scientific research about the safety of our TEACHERS and LEARNERS.

I am a concerned parent and I won't allow the government to risk with the lives of learners and teachers. Let them open parliament 1st before opening schools. A mother won't do that to her own children

Our kids must not go to school. Schools and colleges must close down and open parliament

The schools were closed too early therefor they were opened too early. What is more important? The children's education right now? Or the future of the universe? The school year should be carried on next year. Keep the future South Africa safe

Children enjoy playing around so social distancing can be challenging.

I feel that it would be irresponsible of the department of education to open schools while it is foreseen that there will be a spike in Covid-19 statistics around the time schools will be opening
