Imagine a place where EVC students, K-12 students, and members of the
community could all come to learn more about science, our local
ecology, and the indigenous tribes of our area. A place that brings the
community onto the community college where kids can be inspired by
exhibits, workshops, and walks in the native plant garden following
charismatic bumble bees and butterflies all while helping local teachers
achieve educational standards for their students. A place where
neighbors can learn about the cosmos, native species, indigenous
culture, sustainable systems, food producing gardens, and the mysteries
of the microbial world. Join us in supporting the construction of an
art-science museum situated on land adjacent to Evergreen Valley College to benefit the students
and academic programs, in addition to
positively impacting the community and the K-12 school systems in EVC's
service area.
This center would include a state-of-the-art projectorless
planetarium, life and earth sciences exhibits with particular emphasis
on local species, displays from multiple disciplines, and art exhibitions showcasing artists and students of all grade levels. We envision a collaborative
interdisciplinary approach to education where science, technology,
engineering, arts, and mathematics are combined to create a platform
where a new generation of learners will stand to face the challenges
currently afflicting our society.
We need a consolidated museum space that leverages existing resources
and expertise on our campus such as the EVC Museum of Natural Sciences,
the Montgomery Hill Observatory, and the Visual & Performing Arts
Center.
Such a project requires unified community and political support, in
addition to agreement from students, classified professionals, faculty,
and administrators regarding its benefits to the Evergreen community. It is time now to take this idea to the Board of Trustees
and outside our campuses for consideration and further examination.

As a museum worker and Evergreen Valley College alumni, it will benefit students and the community to have collections housed, provide students opportunities to work in their field, and have accessibility for Title I schools in the area to the museum.
