Mental health education needs to be more prominent across the AFL. They need to be a role model in education/advocation for those also playing footy at a grass roots level that can promote a better understanding of their own thoughts, feelings, emotions.

I support a mental health round because awareness promotes, well-being and performance, strengthens, and builds a more inclusive, supportive environment

This is so important especially in male dominant sports. There is still a lot of stigma on speaking up when you’re struggling and the afl and media need to be more supportive of this not only for a dedicated around but throughout the season

There is never too much awareness that can be created. When we see role models like AFL players sharing their stories and vulnerabilities it empowers others. We need financial investment to ensure people receive the all the help they can receive.

I believe more needs to be done to prevent mental health escalation. I’ve endured my own mental health condition-OCD and I now openly share my story to help others. I now live on the other side of it. The link may be broken between the one suffering and recognising that they need help before escalation occurs. Education from a Lived Experience Perspective. Absolutely agree — a dedicated Mental Health Round in the AFL could be a catalyst for real change. The AFL has an enormous platform and influence, particularly with young men and boys across the country. If the league publicly commits to mental health, it sends a loud and clear message: You don’t have to be tough all the time. You don’t always have to have the answers. Reaching out isn’t weakness — it’s strength. For too long, outdated ideas of masculinity have silenced too many men who are struggling. But sport has the power to shift culture. With the AFL’s support, we can begin to change societal norms and create space for conversations that save lives. I'm standing with you on this — let’s change the game.

We need to be pro-active, not re-active in this space. Not only for the men, but for all Australians. Great petition.

Continuing to improve awareness and creating pathways for people to get the health they need is vital. A great initiative that is long overdue.

As an advisor and partner to the Danny Frawley Centre we need to continue to see our efforts combined and aligned for greater impact. We have Spuds round but could be much more holistic with the AFL on board - as will be considered, also need to be tiered touch points from big game mass awareness through to player, club personnel, workplaces, grass roots sport, schools, community. Awareness + real life education and practical upskill.
