In 2014, Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad, signed a legislative order without consulting Iowa Representatives, Iowa Senators, constituents or stakeholders to close two of Iowa’s state funded mental health institutions. He is now considering closing the two remaining mental health institutions. This has left mentally ill Iowans in crisis, with few alternatives to receive quality care; utilizing emergency department services, traveling hundreds of miles to obtain care in other states, or not receiving any care at all. Please show your support for mentally ill Iowans and their supportors and sign the petition, letting Governor Branstad know you don't agree with closing the last two mental health institutions in Iowa.

I would like to know what your plan is to protect people that are a harm to themselves or others due to mental health issues. I find your lack of long term consideration for the well-being of your constituents reprehensible.

Iowa is ranked one of worst in the United States for mental health care, why is this acceptable. More facilities need to be opened, not shutting down!
