Save the Heminway Stage
It has been proposed that the stage area in the Watertown Municipal Center at Heminway should be used as a town storage area. The thinking is that the town has no real need for a working stage area. As the founders and directors of Whimsicality- a theater for young actors, we believe that thinking is short sighted and financially irresponsible. Whimsicality, a recreation sponsored program produces three shows a year and counts almost 200 Watertown children in its ranks. The recreation department must pay to open a school for rehearsals, set construction, and performances to the tune of thousands of dollars each year. Most of that money does not get recouped through ticket sales. Also the room works for summer concerts that must be rescheduled due to weather, holiday programs just to name a few ideas. We believe with creative thinking, the space is useable now but in time it could be a viable performance space for guest speakers and top notch shows. Let's fill that space with singers and dancers, not boxes and dust.
