The Rancho Santa Margarita City Council has recently decided to displace the Boys & Girls Club from their current location in the Bell Tower building, with plans to replace it with a museum that costs the city $300,000. This decision threatens not only the physical space that has been home to our children's activities for over a decade but also jeopardizes the annual funding of $120,000 that has been provided for 12 years. The proposed museum would operate on limited hours (Mon-Fri 11-4PM), times when most adults are at work and children are at school, thus limiting its accessibility and usefulness to our community.
The Boys & Girls Club provides essential services and enrichment opportunities for our youth, contributing significantly to their growth and development. The club provides: daily hot meals, leadership opportunities, education support such as tutoring, STEM learning, mental health services, donations for school supplies and so much more. It is an active space that serves the RSM community 5 days a week as a safe and affordable space for children ages 6-18 years old year-round.
The Boys & Girls Club is the only affordable and available option for after-school childcare, as TLC is often impacted by long wait lists and costs over $400 per month with sub par care. The club is a necessity to low-income families, as well as all other income class families, as all residents are struggling to keep up with inflation as cost of goods have risen 19% since 2020.
To showcase the historical artifacts, the city council can showcase them in the hallways of City Hall, Bell Tower and as a digital feature online.
We urge the city council to reconsider this decision, maintain funding for the club, and allow them to remain in their current location. This is about investing in our future - our children.

I have two kids enrolled in the RSM Boys and Girls Club and they love it. I have to spend over $1,000 per month on afterschool care during the school year if the club closes and I cannot afford it. Why more of the City of RSM resources are being assigned to senior citizens than the United States future generation?
This program help me for 4 years when my daughters were in elementary school at cielo vista. I didn’t have a lot money to put them in a daycare or TLC program.
If our city has tax dollars to fund the chamber of commerce’s Ranchofest party. Then the B & G club should be funded as well It’s money well spent keeping our kids in a safe environment after school.
I grew up at a Boys and girls club most of my child hood and they were the greatest memories I have. My parents worked form sun up till sun down and the club was all my brother and I knew growing up.
Please reconsider keeping the boys and girls club in the bell tower- the kids deserve a safe place to go after school! Find another location for the museum or whatever you have planned. There is plenty of vacant real estate here in RSM!

We need this space to remain for our children's sake. It's hard enough to keep our kids from staring at screens all day without having one of the few organized outlets for activities structured for the betterment of kids to be axed in favor of a museum for a city barely 24 years old. As a 36-year RSM resident, I am more than happy to spend my tax dollars on keeping the Boys and Girls Club in place.
