To Stony Brook Community,
It has come to our attention that the stadium lot is being taken away from the student body in regards to tailgating. Homecoming is an event that happens every year and it is a tradition that students wait eagerly for. It has become an important facet to student life at Stony Brook University. We are requesting , to the parties involved, that tailgating remains the way that it is and student priority is taken into account before all else. We have created this petition to show the students need and desire for tailgating to remain the way it is.
Here are the list of demands:
- The Lot for Students: We demand that the Stadium Lot be reserved for STUDENT tailgating. Traditions that students value should not be infringed on.
- Parking Passes: Students should be able to purchase parking passes for tailgating at an affordable rate. Accessibility to this event for students should be PRIORITIZED

They are just taking away the student tailgate so that they can make money by hosting an alumni and family picnic. This is one of the only fun traditions we have at stony brook and to take it away for money is wrong
Please do not get rid of the tailgate. It is a university tradition not only at stony brook but at most institutions around the US. It is a way for the students to show pride in their school. Please do not take that away from us!
I intended to donate as an alumnus this year - I can assure you, if tailgating traditions are curtailed in a pathetic attempt by campus to sell more of their event tickets, that will not happen
This will be my first homecoming as an alumni, and for the past four years of attending Stony Brook, tailgate was my favorite event to attend, getting to reconnect with those whom have graduated in one big lot, and also getting to see the diverse groups that were present. It’s tradition at this point, and I don’t think it’s fair to remove something that is a part of us now.
Stony Brook already has a reputation for being a boring, commuter school and for having all its residential students go home on weekends. Homecoming is one of the only days all students unite to have fun and celebrate our school in the stadium lot. It is a tradition. And now, we’re getting kicked out of it.
First time at homecoming, there better be tailgate

This just seems to be a poor trend of taking events slowly and slowly from the university and replacing them with poorer events that do not embody the Stony Brook traditions and are just fueled by making some sort of income at the end or creating them as cheap as possible. I wonder what's the next event that's going to be taken away. Stop destroying student life here.
