The progress w younger grades is promising. Since we know that If they aren’t reading by end of second grade, then we mostly look to special education to help. Let’s stop all those first and second graders from being statistics. Now, let’s look to the mental, emotional, and physical well being of the rest of our kids. They deserve to complete the education they’ve worked hard to get. Middle and high schoolers need someone to guide them OFF their devices. Open schools for all. Masks optional.

Kids' mental health is suffering, we need a more balanced approach! Let's take some sensible precautions and get our kids back in school! This is being done in other states, we can and should do it too

The science and data speak to opening the schools full time sans masks. We as a society will never be "safe" enough, if you are alive - there is risk in all things. Speaking as a Mother to a 8 year old cancer survivor who battled for years against a rare cancer I know first hand what isolation does to a soul. While my child was in active treatment for cancer - parent sent their children to school with common colds which could have killed out child. You know what we did - we stayed home when it was necessary while the rest of the world went on living. It was and is as it should be. People with compromised immune systems know how to self isolate and have lived this way as needed for forever. It's time to open the schools. Life waits for no one and tomorrow is not promised. Our children need education, they need their peers, they need their teachers, they need community, they need stability and strong mental health, they need connection and they need support. Children need and deserve better than what the schools are giving them. It's time to open the schools, sans masks. Mental health in not exclusive of physical health - both are of equal importance and with schools closed all children are suffering.
