As a parent of 3 school aged kids I can attest first hand to the damage virtual learning is inflicting on our children's educational experience. For people that are not in a place to pursue home schooling and too middle income for private school , we rely on the public school system to provide quality education for our kids. Virtual learning is damaging for many reasons, I will outline a few: requires way too much screen time, does not meet the basic human interaction needs of children, promotes feelings of isolation, does not allow for hands on teacher to student help, aids in embarrasing students with less desirable "backdrops" for their "meets", I could list many more but will try to stay brief. Hospitalizations rates have plunged and are near a statistical zero for young people. Current rate is 98 for 100,000 folks which is incredibly low and not even close to the "extinction level event" numbers we all were told to fear in April. We are all smart enough to know if walmart and daycares can be open so can schools. There is no rebuttle to that simple fact. How is a daycare center deemed essential and school is not? Can the virus tell rather students are at school or day care before hopping from person to person? Also if masks work than let them work. If they don work to protect kids at school than how are we to believe they protect us at WinCo? Virtual learning has completely failed our students. By no fault of our amazing teachers. They have devoted countless hours in rolling out this plan and I applauded their efforts. It's not the teachers that have failed but rather it's a platform that could never work. Especially on a large scale and even more so when talking about our elementary aged students. This cannot continue or many like myself will opt for other means of education that actually make sense . Kids first. Open up. Respectfully, Jake Becker a taxpayer and voter of Spokane Valley

We are at less than 1.0 transmission rate in Spokane, less than 3% covid hospitalizations, and less than 60% total hospital beds occupied. These are exciting results that support the case to reopen schools. Our children are suffering academically, mentally and emotionally. Please allow them to go back to school.
