Housing and social justice activists in Seattle have built a movement which points the way forward on how we can tackle the housing crisis: by taxing the rich who create it and who can afford it and building publicly owned permanently affordable housing. In a city with 5 billionaires and multi-billion dollar corporations, Seattle has one of the highest rates of homelessness and rapidly rising housing costs. I stand with the working and poor people who have organised and are calling for a tax on the top 5-10% of corporations to build 750 housing units per year. We won't stand for Amazon putting profits over people by threatening job loss of thousands of workers who rely on that promised income. For causing unliveable conditions through skyrocketing property values for the workers they rely on to make profits. It's time to #TaxTheRich and #TaxAmazon.

Pay up, Amazon! With billions in profits (thanks to worker exploitation, no taxes, and bought politicians) you won’t miss a few million to help homeless humans. Do the right thing.

Tax the rich, feed the poor! Corporations like Amazon are destroying the very fabric of society with the way they run their business. When will enough be enough? We must tell Amazon that they have to pay their share of being a part of this region and this world. There is no excuse to bow down to them or any other corporation hell bent on the exploitation of living beings.

The Homeles are our neighbors. We need to help keep them from living on the streets. The 1% doen't care, it's up to the 99% to find and fund a solution.

Amazon needs to be tamed. It should actually be taken over and nationalized. If people understood the true nature of this beast it would not be allowed to rampage out of control.

Amazon has unleashed disaster capitalism in Seattle by massively increasing the population of our city in just a few years without spending one cent to fund affordable housing or compensate for its impacts on our parks, our schools, our libraries, our mass transit system and our public safety infrastructure. Amazon pays its tech workers six figure salaries, but threatens to stop expanding or even leave our city altogether if we ask it to pay a very modest head tax of ~$0.25 per employee per hour head to build permanent affordable housing for the thousands of Seattle residents living in tents and vehicles because there simply is no affordable housing they can afford, even though 40% of them work as many hours per week as they can get. Amazon exploits our city in order to reap global profits of many $billions per year, but is too greedy to share a modest portion of its wealth with Seattle’s poorest citizens. Amazon has signaled its utter disregard for hardworking construction workers by threatening to suspend construction on several of its new buildings if the head tax is enacted. In doing so, Amazon has morphed into a shakedown racket. Its time we call their bluff and tell them to pay up or get out.

It's shameful that a multi-billion dollar business - Amazon specifically -can & does continue to reap millions of dollars {paid by hard working people in Seattle/King County); yet pays NO Federal taxes? This attempted EXTORTION tactic just goes to show that big business has no problem bleeding people's incomes for their own gain. I hope Seattle City Council will stand strong WITH KSHAMA SAWANT and vote to tax Amazon & other big businesses like them. It's well past time for the people to get some of their return back.

They make a fortune here, and around the country. They don't pay their fair share of taxes and they distort the housing market here in Seattle. Time for them to kick in like the rest of us.
