I was extremely disappointed to learn of this and would be embarrassed to display a degree from a university that would sell out to a corporate entity. And I certainly wouldn’t recommend potential students to attend such a university.

As a 1997 Alumni, I am very disappointed to see the College of Optometry sell out to a corporate entity such as National Vision.

The person who made this decision should be ashamed of him/herself. How dare you denigrate the profession that we love in such a backhanded, careless manner?

A college should not be renamed after a company donating to it. That diminishes the quality and significance of the degree given as well as the college itself if it is renaming because of money. but consider naming a wing in the building or another form of acknowledgement in the clinics if the company is donating to the school.

I would agree that the donation be made to help the institution. Nothing wrong with helping in a financial way. Selling the name? Have some decorum, please.

This is unbelievable and an embarrassment to an institution and to our profession.

This is not right in any way, shape, or form. My child spent years earning her bachelors in order to become a graduate from NSU Oprometry college. Changing the name erases the history and the prestige. This is insane. Maybe I should just move her to a state college. The name of NSU previously meant something. A name change will mean nothing.

Thought it was a commentary on the almost blatant for profit needs of schools then realized it was real! What’s next, CVS Harvard School of Medicine?

When the few decide what's best for the many without consideration and only for greed or personal gain it is doom for failure of everyone.

Step backwards for optometry, do not support this

This is a gross blurring of the lines between an impartial education of optometry and corporations buying optometry students.

This is an insult to all our profession has worked for over the past decades to have a school named after a company that respects our profession so little that it gives free eye exams just to spur optical sales. Goes to show that, for the right price, someone will sell their integrity.

Can’t believe you would even consider this. Guess it’s all about the Benjamins.
