Vote NO to rezoning land next to Beeks Elementary

Affordable single family homes might be lovely here—not stacked, multi-story duplexes, whether they're for seniors or college students. Too much traffic and too much disruption to the character of the neighborhood.

Before buying our house three years ago, I checked the zoning throughout the neighborhood to avoid living near a large development, such as the one proposed. Please protect our neighborhood and do not rezone this property. Such a change would increase noise, traffic, and light pollution. It would threaten the character of this community.

Leave the land alone.

Please keep our area from having a ghost town. These homes will be sold to alumni that come for Tech football games. We will lose our mature trees and have no neighbors.

Please don't change the zoning. It's almost impossible to find single family houses like the ones in the surrounding neighborhoods. Most of the people I know who grew up in Blacksburg have been forced to move into Christiansburg (or further) to afford housing. We love the town and having another neighborhood of single family houses available to us would be a huge benefit.

Don't do it.

I live very close to this proposed development. It is a grandiose plan that is way out of keeping with the surrounding existing homes in size, selling price and architecture. It corrupts the tone and feel of the Airport Acres neighborhood. Keep the zoning R-4.

The town should respect current zoning to preserve neighborhood integrity.64

My wife and I moved to Blacksburg (Airport Acres) a couple years ago for the community and small, affordable houses. I am an employee at Virginia Tech and the walkability of the neighborhood and proximity to the campus was a huge plus. I run with my dog in the neighborhood and walk to work. Sadly on several occasions, I have had near-misses with cars on Airport Road. Similarly, I have observed students from Beeks Elementary School having some near misses with cars. This proposed rezoning is a colossally bad idea for a number of reasons. I'll mention two (there are others). (Reason 1) It will add significantly to the already busy traffic on Airport Road and increase the likelihood of pedestrian accidents. (Reason 2) >40-foot tall condominiums(!) radically deviate from the existing neighborhood and what is permissible under R4 zoning.

As an owner of property in, and resident of Airport Acres, I am strongly in opposition to the proposed rezoning and proposed development of the land discussed in this petition.

Please preserve the forest.

stop! just stop! This is not smart!

Please consider the ramifications of this project. The heavy traffic during opening and closing of school hours is maddening enough without high density housing there.

My children have walked to Beeks along Airport Rode every day to school. Putting high density housing next to the school puts pedestrians at increaed risk. The race to Southgate in the mornings is already extreme and there is not ample space to accommodate increased traffic there. This is a dangerous plan and not good for our kids or for logical growth and development in our town. Nor do I believe that most 55+ people will invest in a 3rd floor apartment for retirement. I think this will ultimately be undergraduate student housing, which does not fit at all with the neighborhood, and doesn't belong next to an elementary school. The long term residents of this town deserve to have some family-centered neighborhoods.

I have big concerns about adding additional traffic to this area of Airport Drive. Margaret Beeks has a lot of walkers and this seems unsafe.

This development is not in character with the existing neighborhood.

This area must be kept lower density. Developers such as this one and Jeannie Stosser just want money and don't care about our town.

No! This exactly what our small school community does NOT need.

No development.

It is imperative to protect the integrity of our town and its neighborhoods.
